โ€œForged in discipline, strengthened by adversity, and bound by an unbreakable commitment to serve the Filipino peopleโ€”the PNPA Mandilaab Class of 2014 stands as a symbol of heroism, integrity, and sacrifice.โ€

The year was 2009. Across the nation, more than 25,000 young men and women set their sights on the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA)โ€”each one dreaming of donning the uniform, carrying the badge, and swearing an oath to protect the Filipino people. But the path to honor was never meant for the faint-hearted.

Only a select few would rise above the rest, proving themselves worthy of carrying the badge.

Among them, the Mandilaab Class of 2014โ€”warriors forged in discipline, tempered by sacrifice, and bound by an unbreakable commitment to serve.

Following the 2009 PNPA Cadet Admission Test (CAT) and an exhaustive selection process, only 259 cadets earned the right to enter the hallowed grounds of Camp General Mariano N. Castaรฑeda, Silang, Cavite, on May 1, 2010.

Their journey began with the grueling 45-day Breaking Period, designed to test their physical endurance, mental fortitude, and emotional resilience.

What followed was four years of intense training, academic rigor, and relentless challenges, shaping them into the nationโ€™s future law enforcers. On March 31, 2014, 202 graduates proudly marched across the PNPA parade grounds, standing tall as fully commissioned officers, ready to dedicate their lives to the pillars of public safety.

โ€œMandilaabโ€ is not just a nameโ€”it is a flame. A fire that burns with honor, justice, and devotion to the Filipino people. Like an unquenchable blaze, its warriors stand as guardians of peace, illuminating the path of righteousness while consuming the darkness of crime and lawlessness.

Derived from โ€œMandirigmang may Dangal at Isipan Laan para sa Bayanโ€, it perfectly encapsulates the essence of the class:

A breed of law enforcers driven by a burning passion for justice, a relentless pursuit of excellence, and an unyielding commitment to public service.

Beyond law enforcement, the Mandilaab Class of 2014 chose to serve in another wayโ€”by giving hope.

Annual Gift-Giving Tradition

Amidst the struggles of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Mandilaab officers from Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7) initiated a gift-giving tradition at the Pari-an Drop-in Center in Cebu City.

Every December 4, in honor of their Recognition Rites anniversary, they return to these childrenโ€”not just to bring meals and gifts, but to plant the seeds of dreams.

A young boy, clutching his new toy, looked up at an officer and whispered, โ€œGusto ko rin pong maging pulis balang araw.โ€

In that moment, the Mandilaab officers realized their mission was greater than enforcing the lawโ€”it was about inspiring the next generation to believe in a brighter future.

Bravery in the Marawi Siege (2017)

May 2017. The once-thriving city of Marawi was plunged into chaos as ISIS-inspired Maute terrorists launched a brutal siege, threatening to establish an Islamic caliphate.

The nation held its breath as government forces waged a relentless battle to reclaim the city.

Among the brave warriors at the frontlines stood the Mandilaab Class of 2014โ€”trained to operate in the most dangerous and hostile environments.

Under relentless gunfire, they fought side by side with their brothers in arms, risking their lives in the name of duty.

For their heroism, they earned the title of โ€œMarawi Liberatorsโ€โ€”a testament to their unwavering courage and sacrifice.
