The journey of the PNPA “MAKATARUNGAN” Class of 1984 began on the bright sunny day of May 1, 1982, at Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba, Laguna, where more than one hundred aspirants who had passed the rigid mental and physical examinations for cadetship reported to compose the one hundred ten (110) cadets of the PNPA Makatarungan Class 1984.

Cadetship is not so much about academic excellence or scholarship as it is about the character, commitment, and community ideals that the program aims to inculcate in each of them. Academy training is a reflection of their status as men of character, as citizens of enduring commitment to public service, and as advocates of community change and social transformation. Public service demands integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness. These values rest at the core of their being as humans and servants of the people. For cadets, character counts! Commitment exemplified by sincerity and dedication characterizes leadership and accountability in these challenging times.

Their existence as cadets is all about time. There is time for everything, and everything is timed. There is time for rejoicing and a time for discernment. Life is a time-bounded journey. There is always a beginning and an end. In between are successes, struggles and stories strength and survival. Cadets learn to use their time wisely and productively. It is not a question of how long they exist but the quality and value of their existence.

Their class graduated on June 16, 1984, with a total of 99 graduates, producing 22 star-rank officers from the tri-bureau, while 78 original members are still living.

As the authors of the PNPA Roadmap, the Makatarungan Class of 1984 laid the foundation for the Academy’s growth, ensuring that the principles of justice, leadership, and service continue to guide future generations of Lakan. Their legacy serves as a beacon for all cadets—a reminder that the path of honor and duty is one worth following.
