Across the nation, thousands of dreamers set their sights on a path less traveled—one that demands more than just courage but also unwavering resolve and relentless determination. They faced rigorous tests, grueling challenges, and sacrifices beyond measure to earn a place in an elite brotherhood. But among the many who dared, only 345 were deemed worthy of the honor, privilege, and duty of becoming cadets of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA).

On May 21, 2013, 345 individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs took a solemn oath, surrendering themselves to a higher calling—to serve God, the country, and the people with unwavering loyalty and integrity. It was the beginning of a transformation, a test of character, and a battle against one’s own limitations. As they stood at the gates of their new home, former Director PCSupt Noel Gicano Constantino left them with a challenge:

“PNPA cadet life is highly regimented and difficult. Many are called, but few are chosen, and even fewer will finish. You still have time to think, assess yourself, and change your mind.”

These words echoed in their minds as they embarked on their 45-day breaking period—a relentless initiation designed to strip them of old habits and forge them into disciplined, honorable warriors. The name “PLEBES” was both a title and a trial, one that demanded humility, perseverance, and an unbreakable spirit.

But the truth was harsh. Within the first three days, over 80 plebes made the painful decision to resign, unable to withstand the scorching heat, the relentless drills, and the deafening commands that filled every waking moment. Each passing day saw more names withdrawn, each one a reminder that only the truly resolute could endure.

As the strength of MASIDLAK 2017 dwindled, a decision was made to welcome a select group of excess qualified PNPA applicants—the so-called “Magic 15.” But fate was unforgiving. Within a week, only five remained, standing alongside the class that would become their family.

Through the years, they evolved, molded by a training system that harmonized intellect, morality, and physical endurance. Every hardship, every lesson, and every shared struggle strengthened their bond and forged them into something greater than individuals—a class united by fire and adversity.

Weeks turned into months, months into years. The cadets of MASIDLAK ‘17 endured the trials that many could not. Some faltered, not for lack of will, but for academic requirements that stood as another test of resilience. And as the years passed, their numbers dwindled. From the original 345, only 155 remained—unyielding and unwavering.

Though fewer in number, their camaraderie and loyalty only grew stronger. They were no longer just cadets; they were warriors, shaped by an institution that accepts only the best and demands even better. They had proven that survival was not just about strength, but about honor, perseverance, and the unwavering spirit of public service.

Finally, as they stood on the threshold of their greatest achievement, only 144 warriors remained—144 individuals who had conquered the trials, upheld their oaths, and were now ready to take their place as defenders of the nation.

On March 24, 2017, the MASIDLAK Class of 2017 marched forward, not just as graduates but as beacons of justice, integrity, and public service. The Philippine National Police Academy had chosen them, tested them, and now sent them forth—not as mere officers, but as guardians of the people, protectors of the weak, and champions of the oppressed.

Their journey was not just a story of endurance, but a testament to the unbreakable spirit of those who dare to serve.
