The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Lakandula Class of 2015 represents a distinguished group of public servants dedicated to upholding the academy’s core values of Justice, Integrity, and Service.

“LAKANDULA,” their class name, which translates to “Lahing Kayumanggi na Handang Ialay sa Bayan ang Dugo at Lakas,” has taken inspiration from the great pre-colonial chieftain Lakandula, symbolizing an unwavering commitment to selfless duty and dedication to protecting the people.

The journey of its members began in November 2010 when approximately 35,000 applicants took the PNPA Cadet Admission Test, with only about 1,200 qualifying for the subsequent selection phase.

Those who succeeded underwent various rigorous assessments, including a Neuro Exam, Physical Fitness Exam, and Medical and Dental evaluations, culminating in a Final Interview. Ultimately, 355 individuals emerged as members of the Bachelor of Science in Public Safety Class of 2015.

Throughout their time at the academy, the class engaged in an intensive curriculum combining academic rigor with practical field training, covering essential subjects like criminal law, forensic science, and tactical operations.

They participated in hands-on exercises, including simulated crime scene investigations, disaster response training, and leadership development programs, equipping them to confront real-world public safety challenges with confidence and competence.

On March 26, 2015, 247 men and women graduated, with 226 joining the Philippine National Police (PNP), 10 entering the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and 11 becoming part of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The class comprised 227 males and 20 females.

Leading the batch was then Cadet Dennis M. Yuson Jr. who was awarded the prestigious Presidential Kampilan Award for graduating at the top of his class. He was followed by then Police Cadet Rod Kevin T. Talplacido, awarded the Vice Presidential Kampilan Award, and then Police Cadet Marlon H. Landong, who received the SILG Kamilan Award for third place.

Other top 10 graduates included were then cadets Raymund B. Caguioa (4th), Michael Sula Sula Giner (5th), Nathaniel D. Faulve (6th), Kenneth F. Lumbre (7th), Roel R. Bata (8th), Mark Jonathan Z. Avillano (9th), and Julie Anne L. Aguilar (10th).

Upon graduation, the class received their Bachelor of Science in Public Safety (BSPS) degree and were appointed to the rank of Inspector in their respective public safety bureaus.

Now, a decade later, the class continues to make significant impacts across various fields, with many rising through the ranks into pivotal leadership roles within the PNP, BFP, and BJMP. Their unwavering dedication to service shines through in their ongoing pursuit of justice, peace, and community engagement.

Beyond their official responsibilities, Lakandula members have actively participated in outreach programs, youth mentorship initiatives, and crime prevention campaigns, fostering strong relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve, reinforcing the trust essential for a safer society.

Several members of Lakandula were deployed to the battlefields during the infamous Marawi Siege, others were sent abroad for foreign training, and some were even assigned to the United Nations missions in Africa.

As they journey forward in their careers, the class serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring future generations of cadets and officers. “Stand Firm,” as the class always says, embodies their resilience and dedication to public service.

Their legacy endures, forever honoring the name Lakandula with pride. With each mission and every community safeguarded, they uphold the ideals of their alma mater and the sacred duty of protecting the people and the nation.
